Introduction: The laryngeal cancer in 95%> of the cases corresponds to squamous cell carcinomas, being the remaining percentage several histological different types. Aim: To determine the frequency of laryngeal cancer of unusual histology in our center. Material and method: Retrospective study review of clinical data of patients with histophatological diagnosis of laryngeal cancer evaluated in Otolaryngology Department ofSan Juan de Dios's Hospital between years 2000-2008. Sex, age, histological type, tobacco smoking and tumor location are described, being carried outa descriptive analysis ofthe data. Results: 85 patients were included; 74 cases (87,1 %>) ofmasculine sex; mean age 64 years; there were 5 cases of unusual histology tumors (5,9 %>); a case respectively of: chondrosarcoma, carcinoid tumor, adenoid-cystic carcinoma, sarcomatoid carcinoma and verrucous carcinoma. Discussion: It might suspect unusual histology with statistical base in patient younger than 60 years and tumor of subglotic location. Also, in feminine patient, not smoking and more than one capture ofsample forbiopsy Conclusion: The tumors of unusual histology viere found in a 5.9% of the cases, similar to the reponed in the literature.
