This work offers a contrast between a theoretical conception of human rights based on an atomist view of the individual and one based on the understanding of the individual as a social being, which is constituted as a moral agent and a holder of rightstrough his belonging to political society. More specifically, this article deals with the theoretical justifications of human rights´ limitations, proposing that the social conception of human rights allows for a fuller explanation of their current modes of recognition and protection as limited rights.
