This study discusses the effects of nitrate time-course in Arthrospira platensis cultivation, and will focus on the targetproducts: exopolysaccharides with promissory biological activities and phycocyanin with interesting properties for the cosmetic and food industries. Therefore, the possible simultaneous production of both high value products with reasonable productivities will be examined. A. platensis was cultivated in 1 L bubble column photobioreactor. Biomass, nitrate, phycocyanin and exopolysac-charides were estimated with standard methods. The experimental results in this work show that phycocyanin mass fraction degraded as a result of the complete nitrate depletion and nitrate additions during the cultivation, which helped keeping constant this molecule until new limitations appear. Finally, the current work has demonstrated that by controlling nutrient additions such as nitrate, reasonable mass fractions in both products phycocyanin (30 mg gbiomasa-1) and exopolysaccharides (120 mg gbiomass-1) could be obtained.
