This article describes a wideband spectrum sensing algorithm, proposed as a mechanism for validation of a methodology of compressive sensing for efficient signal processing proposed in a previous work. In this sense, the problem of spectrum sensing in cognitive radio (CR) systems is solved by a different perspective from the traditional approach, where the spectrum sensing is performed by algorithms that sample the radio frequency signal (RF) at high rates, at or above the Nyquist rate. Simulation results show that the proposed compressive sensing method satisfies the spectrum sensing algorithms and therefore extend its application to digital signal processing. The efficiency of the results obtained by performing a methodological development against the results with no methodical development is evident in the performance of the proposed sensing algorithm. This performance is present in terms of better probability of detection, miss- detection and false alarm than other recently proposed algorithms.
