CID RODRIGUEZ, Gabriel. Memorias, mitos y ritos de guerra: el imaginario de la Batalla de Yungay durante la Guerra del Pacífico. Universum [online]. 2011, vol.26, n.2, pp. 101-120. ISSN 0718-2376. doi: 10.4067/S0718-23762011000200006.
The purpose of this article is to analyze the ritual, discursive and symbolic recovery of the Yungay Battle of January 20, 1839, in the context of the War of the Pacific (l879-l883). The text focuses on the process of contemporization of the imaginary of the Yungay victory by the Chilean nationalistic discourse of the l879 war, using it as a central historical landmark in the building of the triumphalistic rethoric facing Peru and Bolivia. It also examines the way how Chilean nationalism recuperated the 20th of January holiday, longtime forgotten since the l860’s, as a key moment for the publicity of a patriotic set of ideas.
