Abstract
REYES BAEZ, OMAR; SAN ROMAN, MANUEL and MORAGA, MAURICIO. Chonos archipielago: new archaeological and bioanthropological records in the northern channels. Traiguen island, XI Region de Aisén. Magallania [online]. 2011, vol.39, n.2, pp. 293-301. ISSN 0718-2244. doi: 10.4067/S0718-22442011000200020.
We present new records of human occupation in the northern channels of Aisén, specifically the northwest coast of the Traiguén Island, where four archaeological sites were found. The frequency of the findings and a significant volume of deposits suggest the importance of this area for indigenous human settlement. The sites are fsh corrals and camping sites characterized by large accumulations of shell middens, emphasizing the discovery of historical human remains in one of these. The dates obtained for a domestic site with burial remains can sustain the intense use of this locality during the last 1300 years.
Keywords : Patagonia; Chonos Archipelago; Traiguen island; human remains.
