GALLARDO, Gonzalo; GOMEZ, Esteban; MUNOZ, Magdalena  and  SUAREZ, Nicolás. Fatherhood: Social Representations of Heterosexual Young Male College Students Without Children. Psykhe [online]. 2006, vol.15, n.2, pp. 105-116. ISSN 0718-2228.  doi: 10.4067/S0718-22282006000200010.

Results of a qualitative research about Social Representations of Fatherhood, on young male college students without children, between 18 and 25 years of age, are presented. A qualitative methodology with a descriptive-analytical character design was used. Data was gathered from four focus group interviews, and results were analyzed using the Grounded Theory Method. The main phenomena consigned on this research has to do with the transformation of traditional fatherhood and the emergence of a new fatherhood, in which those characteristics that are valued positively in traditional fatherhood would be conserved, but transformed by the central process of including the affectivity in the social representation of fatherhood.

Keywords : social representations; fatherhood; affectivity.
