Abstract

RIBO-LABASTIDA, Ignasi. Suspicious Cuts on the Surface. Alpha [online]. 2006, n.22, pp. 9-26. ISSN 0718-2201.  doi: 10.4067/S0718-22012006000100002.

This article studies the aesthetical significance of Alain Robbe-Grillet’s narrative objectivity, paying special attention to his novel La Jalousie. In this sense, a parallelism is established between the use of the mechanisms of density and discontinuity in the narrative texture of this novel, and the cuts that the Italian-Argentinean artist Lucio Fontana made on the canvasses he named Attese. Analysing both cases from the perspective of the Aesthetic Theories - specifically, the contributions of Heidegger, Barthes or Derrida-, the article tries to show how the cut constitutes a fundamental mechanism in contemporary art.

Keywords : french literature; nouveau roman; Robbe-Grillet.
