In this paper we propose a new model for the Distributed Coordination Function of the IEEE 802.11b Standard, that is more accurate than those models currently used in specialized literature, because this model considers finite buffer, limited load, limited tries of retransmission and a more realistic model of the backoff mechanism through of its contention stages. The model is solved using simulation and the following performance measures were calculated: throughput, mean contention time, mean waiting time, overload packet loss probability and power. The obtained results shown that the proposed model effectively is more accurate than the previous models.
