This article analyzes the levels of trust in political parties in Latin America using the 2008 database provided by the AmericasBarometer survey carried out by the Latin American Public Opinion Project (LAPOP) at Vanderbilt University. Furthermore, it shows the determinants of the low levels of confidence in political parties we find in the region. The analysis demonstrates that system support and satisfaction with government performance at national and local levels are key factors explaining trust in these institutions of representation.
