Resumen

CANIPA, Nora K; ALDANA, Claudia R; ZUNIGA, Claudia A  y  GALAN, Carlos A. Evaluation of Aromatic Steroids as Thermal Maturity Indicators in Rock Extracts. Inf. tecnol. [online]. 2009, vol.20, n.2, pp. 61-70. ISSN 0718-0764.  doi: 10.4067/S0718-07642009000200009.

In this work the application of monoaromatic (MA) and triaromatic (TA) steroids analyzed by gas chromatography/mass spectrometry as thermal maturity indicators in rock extracts is evaluated. A set of 26 rock extracts that varies from immature to highly mature was used. The evaluated parameter TA/(MA+TA) can be use to characterize the migration pathway of highly thermal maturity samples while most of the conventional geochemical parameters have limitations in their applications. This because they reach a constant value at high maturity levels and they do not contribute any additional information to define the migration pathways.

Palabras clave : thermal maturity; aromatic steroids; rock extracts; migration pathways.
