ROSAS, Sergio; LUNA, César; SANCHEZ, Oscar y ORTIZ, Esiquio. Production of Sulphuric Acid by Treatment of Residual Gases Generated by Pyrite Roasting. Inf. tecnol. [online]. 2007, vol.18, n.4, pp. 35-40. ISSN 0718-0764. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0718-07642007000400006.
A technical-economical study of the sulphuric acid production by the double-contact process is presented. Based on the characteristics of the residual gases produced by pyrite roasting the effluent cleaning technology and the sulphuric acid production process were selected. To clean out the gaseous effluent a separation train that consists in a cyclone separator, a Venturi washer, a mist eliminator, and two electrostatic precipitators were considered. Also, for the sulphur trioxide synthesis a four-bed catalytic converter was designed. Finally, the capital cost estimation and the economic feasibility for two product concentrations are presented.
