CHACON, Rubén D; SUAREZ, Roberto J; ANDUELA, Luis J y LOPEZ, Oscar A. Significant Variables in the Turning of Torsion Test Specimens. Inf. tecnol. [online]. 2006, vol.17, n.5, pp. 43-50. ISSN 0718-0764. doi: 10.4067/S0718-07642006000500007.
Test specimens of AISI 1045 steel previously turned at low speeds were torsion-tested while modifying the basic variables of feed rate, spindle speed, and depth of cut. Having taken the maximum angle of twist and the surface roughness as output variables from the experimental 23 factorial design applied, it was determined that on both the increase in the maximum angle of twist and on the decrease in surface roughness, significant effects are exerted by the interaction of factors common to both variables. The factors in this interaction are spindle speed and the depth of cut, both at low levels. The study showed that the plasticity of a ductile metallic material, expressed as the maximum angle of twist, increases with improvement of the surface finish of the specimen.
