The objective of the present study is to present a methodology which allows digital watermarking technology to comply with requirements for protecting authors copyrights when a given digital material contains various different watermarks. For this, a general method is proposed for resolution of the problem which consists of correctly assigning the intellectual property of the digital material by recovering the order of insertion of the watermark, supposing that the owner was the one who first inserted his mark. The results show that the use of the proposed technique is viable as a support system in the task of protecting author’s rights
