A model is established for the behaviour of the Peirce-Smith converter during the copper blow using a kinetic treatment. A study was carried out with a laboratory reactor to then apply scaling techniques for its application to an industrial reactor. The desulfurisation rate of copper sulfide was obtained in a laboratory bubbling reactor as a function of temperature and gas flow. It was found that the conversion of sulfur was independent of temperature, but was highly influenced by the flow. Scaling-up was carried out assuming the same overall volumetric coefficient for both laboratory and commercial scales. A fair agreement between model and experimental data of the industrial reactor was found when sulfur conversion was below 90%
