The objective of the present work is to design a mechanical transmission that, included in a differential dividing-head, allows division of a piece into a prime number of equal divisions. For this purpose, the functioning of a differential divider was analyzed first. Then, the required transmission ratios were calculated to obtain all divisions up to 307. An analysis of the transmission ratios demonstrated that the number of stages of the mechanical transmission can be reduced significantly. This result allowed the design of a more compact and mechanically less complex transmission system. Finally, the design of a several-stage transmission is proposed, among which are included two epicyclical stages in series for further reducing the final dimensions of the set.
