This article analyses some school and family risk factors that increase the possibility of failure at school. It is suggested that in order to improve childrens chance for a better performance at school, parents of low -income status- should assist the learning process of their children. At the same time, through the development of the «objetivos transversales» it is possible to create at school protective factors that allow a normal development helping students to achieve a good school performance.
