The article argues that the literary elite utilize love and humor, as themes, to make literature out of social-historic events or problems. This analysis examines the relation between humor and love in the construction and deconstruction of Caribbean identity. Love, humor and otherness entwine in the texts analyzed here to demonstrate the exclusion of minorities in the national project.
