In the modern democratic societies, there coexists a plurality of moral concepts about what is good for people or for communities. Assuring cohabitation, reasonably peacefully among them, is one of the tasks that will be constantly raised in the democratic debate. This article discusses one of the most influential attempts to elaborate a deliberative concept of politics, the one carried out by J. Habermas in Facticidad y Validez. The deliberative concept of politics endeavors to find a way to overcome the impasse between liberalism, which defends the superiority of the individual human rights, and equalitarian republicanism, which defends the supremacy of popular sovereignty.
