Objective: The purpose of this study is to know the opinion on generic skills acquired during their undergraduate training that the Registered Nurses graduated from the Universidad Arturo Prat, Victoria Office (Class of 2008 and 2009) as viewed by health centers Nurse Coordinators, working in the districts of Traiguén and Victoria. The qualitative paradigm, descriptive, across intrinsic case study was used as Methodology; data collection technique was made using the interviews in depth. Data analysis was carried out through content analysis and Atlas-ti software. Results: it was possible to demonstrate that the concept of generic competences is not recognized in its entirety by the key informants, so it was necessary to explain it previously; on the other hand the UNAP nurses presented a poor development in most of the competencies, being the weaker ones those from instrumental group and the interpersonal and systemic ones turned out to be more developed (except for the leadership that is poor). However, they declare that the graduates posses the basic skills required to exercise their role at their work place Conclusion: Nurses graduated from UNAP, despite presenting generic competences necessary to develop themselves as nurses, must reinforce all those competencies related to leadership, organization capacity, planning, prioritization and teamwork. This research will contribute in being the first link in studies based on this topic within the discipline and the University.
