Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) is a non-invasive imaging tool that measure regional cerebral blood flow related changes. Functional MR mapping of the sensory-motor cortex and visual cortex was performed in 24 healthy volunteers. The visual areas in individual subjects were mapped through passively viewing a video stimulus. The activation motor test consisted of a simple hand movement. In both cases, a functional cortical map was obtained. Presurgical mapping of the sensory-motor cortex and visual cortex is a potentially usefull clinical application of fMRI
