BESIO R, Mauricio  and  BESIO H, Cristóbal. CERCLAJE CÉRVICO-ÍSTMICO TRANSABDOMINAL: SERIE CLÍNICA. Rev. chil. obstet. ginecol. [online]. 2004, vol.69, n.2, pp. 126-131. ISSN 0717-7526.  doi: 10.4067/S0717-75262004000200007.

An experience in abdominal cerclage is presented. The history, surgical technique, indications and adverse side effects of the procedure are discussed. A total of thirteen patients, with a fetal survival rate of 87% are discussed. This result is comparable with others reports. Two unpublished indications are highlighted; one patient with a cervico-vaginal fistula and another carrying a double uterus. Abdominal cerclage is a useful procedure in patients with a failure in previous vaginal attempt. However the high risk of this procedure, demands an adequate case to case decision

Keywords : Cervical incompetence; transabdominal cerclage.
