Prevalence of eating disorders such as anorexia and bulimia nervosa are increasing in western industrialized countries. A significant proportion are found in women belonging to middle or high socioeconomic level, beginning at mean age between 13 and 20 years. Since this disease jeopardizes fundamental aspects of psychological development typical of this age as social self-esteem, autonomy and abilities, in addition to the potentially serious consequences to the physical health of the adolescent, it can be deduced the importance of the appropriate knowledge and handling of these pathologies. In this review, epidemiological and clinical aspects, are discussed
