Resumen

REES, Charles  y  DE SOUZA, Patricio. PRODUCCIÓN LÍTICA DURANTE EL PERÍODO FORMATIVO EN LA SUBREGIÓN DEL RÍO SALADO. Chungará (Arica) [online]. 2004, vol.36, suppl., pp.453-465. ISSN 0717-7356.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-73562004000300046.

The objective of this study is to document the form of production, circulation and consumption of lithic materials associated to the Formative period in the Salado River subregion. We understand that the production system is organised around the exploitation of locally existing rocks and the access to distantly located raw materials. On this basis a complex flow system of raw materials and arctifacts is organised between the sites located within the region and those of neighbouring areas. The malachite industry, associated with the late Formative of the Salado river, shows the development of a production branch preferably oriented to its consumption outside the region. The production of beads made out of this mineral is located in the Turi 2 and La Junta sites, which were exploited and primarily transformed in other sites of the region. As it will be shown, the lithic industry of the Formative period in the Salado subregion shows an increasing dependence on the external supply of raw materials
