CASTRO, Victoria; VARELA, Varinia; ALDUNATE, Carlos y ARANEDA, Edgardo. PRINCIPLES AND METHODOLOGY APPLIED TO STUDY THE QHAPAGÑ AN IN ATACAMA: FROM PORTEZUELO DEL INKA TO RÍO GRANDE. Chungará (Arica) [online]. 2004, vol.36, n.2, pp. 463-481. ISSN 0717-7356. http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0717-73562004000200017.
Theoretical and methodological principles are applied in investigating a segment of the Inka Road in the Atacama Puna. We incorporate Andean oral traditions and toponymic studies, framed within the broader constructs of "cultural landscape" theory. The instruments created to register and characterize different types of roads and paths are illustrated, as well as the integration of these data into a geographical information system (GIS)
