ABSTRACT The Llanos de Challe National Park is located near Huasco in northern Chile, with a total area of 45,708 ha. The area experiences a cloudy coastal desert climate, and is representative of the Coastal Desert Ecological Subregion of northern Chile. From 1997-98 herpetological surveys were carried out in the area, yielding eight species belonging to six genera and five families. In this article, we discuss the extent to which the national park is representative of the regional herpetofauna
