A new species of the subgenus Euprojoannisia Brèthes, F. (E.) esteparia from steppes of the Chubut province in Argentinean Patagonia, is described and illustrated. Forcipomyia setosicrus (Kieffer), previously placed in the subgenus Forcipomyia Meigen, is herein recognized as belonging to the subgenus Euprojoannisia. The male of the later species is redescribed and the female described, the neotype is designated, and the broad distributional range of the species in Argentina and Chile is also stated
