MANDIOLA, E; OLAVE, E  e  ALARCON, E. ANATOMICAL RELATIONSHIPS BETWEEN THE ANTERIOR INFERIOR CEREBELLAR ARTERY AND THE TRIGEMINAL NERVE. Rev. chil. anat. [online]. 2002, vol.20, n.3, pp. 291-294. ISSN 0716-9868.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0716-98682002000300010.

The relationships between the anterior inferior cerebellar artery  and the trigeminal nerve has clinical importance, for example, some diseases promoted by neurovascular compression, aneurism and expansive process.  Based on data  in existing literature, we studied this neurovascular  relation  considering side, sex and the cephalic index  of the specimens. We studied 70 human cerebellum obtained from cadavers of both sexes with anthropological  registrations.  Its vascular system was injected with neoprene, fixed in formaldehyde solution and dissected using a surgical microscopy.  Acording to cephalic index we classified them in dolicho-mesocephalics and brachycephalics groups. The anterior inferior cerebellar artery  contacts with trigeminal nerve on the right side in 19 %  in masculine sex and in 7 % in feminine sex; in 16 % in the DM, in 13 % in the brachycephalics. The authors think that the variability observed is important towards the evidente heterogeneity of our indoamerican populations.
