Abstract

SUAREZ, Manuel; RUIZ, Naxhelli  and  DELGADO, Javier. Desigualdad, desarrollo humano y la consolidación urbano-regional en México. EURE (Santiago) [online]. 2012, vol.38, n.115, pp. 73-93. ISSN 0250-7161.  http://dx.doi.org/10.4067/S0250-71612012000300004.

The article explores the spatial association between the Human Development Index, the Gini coefficient and the level of urbanization in Mexico. We determine the association between the three indexes with a non-parametric measure (λ) as well as with a geographically weighted regression model. We find a negative association between urbanization and inequality, but mostly, our analysis suggests a strong importance of space (the regional distribution of the urban condition) in the local measures of inequality.

Keywords : Social inequality; poverty; urbanization.
