ABOUT THE JOURNAL |
|
| The Revista de Geografía Norte Grande is a tri-annual publication (May, September and December) of the Geography Institute of the Pontifical Catholic University of Chile. Published since 1974, it gathers empiric and theoretical investigations, which show the advances in diverse areas of geographical investigation and sciences alike, referred to Chilean cases and also to other regions and countries of Latin America. The title of this publication originates itself when in the seventies, a group of specialists members of Norte Grande Workshop of the Geography Institute, decide to introduce their investigations and conclusions to the rest of the scientific community, persisting on the importance of integrated and interdisciplinary regional investigations of this territory (the “Big North” or “Norte Grande”). In the following years, the increasing complexity of global territory and therefore the national one as well, demanded the opening towards other spaces that exceed the limits of the particular Chilean territory. This is how from “Norte Grande” it became “Geography Journal” on the 7th number in 1980, thus expressing the wish to cover diverse geographical problems that cross transversally our country. During the beginning of the 21st century, the major integration
of sciences and countries has generated the fast and urgent need that
publications unify knowledge on processes that surpass political frontiers.
In this scenario, the Norte Grande Geography Journal has adopted an integrated
and interdisciplinary vision, although centered in Chile, of geographical
processes that are increasingly global, referred to the Latin American
reality. |
