Editorial Policy and scope of Revista Izquierdas

Izquierdas promotes and spreads unpublished research about the history of the facts and ideas of the broad Latin-American socialist culture, as well as its links and experiences with other regional and extra regional political cultures.

Izquierdas receives, validates and spreads scientific-academic works produced by universities and other specialized organisms in Chile and abroad. Its main spreading formats are: Scientific articles resulting from research with public or private sponsorship; Academic presentations: works presented in public events such as Congresses, Seminars, Symposia, etc.; Review of Source and documentary archivesBibliographic reviews and commentaries.

Considering the broad field of historiography, its new fields, objectives and approaches, Izquierdas receives every relevant work regarding its basic topic: social, political, and cultural history; international relations; gender, queer, cultural, sociological, philosophical, and source studies.

Scientific articles, Academic presentations, and Documents and Source Studies, are assessed by form and content. The latter assessment, called peer review is double-blind.

Once the manuscripts are received, the Editorial Council shall determine if they are eligible according to the journal′s editorial line. If so, the article shall be sent for assessment by experts on the subject. This process shall not take more than 5 days after receiving the article.

Each article will be assessed by two external experts, who don′t know the name of the text′s author. The assessment process of a manuscript shall identify if there were conflicts of interest (i.e. economic, institutional, politics, labor, others) between the involved parties (authors, reviewers, journal). When submitting original manuscripts, authors will be able to object reviewers. This information will be kept under strict confidentiality by the board of the journal. The reviewer will have a four week period to communicate the decision to the Editorial Committee. Reviewers′ names will be considered as confidential information. After the review, the decisions may be:

Approved for publication / Academic presentation.

Approved for publication considering and re-editing aspects identified by the reviewers.

Rejected for publication.

If the reviewers′ decision considers any corrections, the author will have a period of twenty days to apply them. In the case the author exceeds the deadline, the publication will be subjected to space and time availability, determined by the Editorial Committee.

The assessment of a manuscript does not imply its immediate publication. The final decision of a manuscript being approved or rejected for publication is made by the Journal′s Editorial Council (it is recommended to those authors interested in participating in this journal to read both Izquierdas and IDEA′s documents about ethical parameters and editorial good practices, hostedin the home page of this publication).

Once the decision for publication or rejection is made, the author will receive a written notification (via e-mail) informing the final decision. In case of publication, the authors will be provided with the edition number and the semester the article is to be published.

The target audience of Izquierdas is the specialized audience (historians, social scientists, academics, students) as well as the general audience.

Izquierdas does not pay nor finance the production and publication of the articles that spreads.
